Si Phan Don – meaning “Four Thousand Islands”, is so called due to its location at the Mekong River which fans out into a maze of channels and islets. Riverside life at Si Phan Don is slow-paced and peaceful, defined by quiet villages settled against a backdrop of stunning river sunsets. The area is also home to many impressive waterfalls, among them includes the Khone Phapeng Falls, nicknamed the “Niagara of the East”.
Cu Chi Tunnels
An extensive underground network stretching over 200 kilometers (approx. 120 miles), these tunnels served as living quarters, supply routes, and hiding spots for Vietnamese soldiers during the Vietnam War. Today, visitors can explore sections of the tunnel, learn about wartime life, and see the ingenious traps used during the conflict. For a small fee, you can also use the firing range, shooting live rounds from guns used in the war.
